OMGYES

I had the great pleasure of collaborating with the team at Buck Amsterdam as an Art Director as we developed a new illustration and animation system for OMGYES - an educational website that aims to break taboos and create an open and honest conversation around pleasure (primarily focusing on individuals with vulvas and vaginas).

We had three main pillars guiding us through the project: keep it instructional and simple, make it sexy and approachable and create diversity.

It was important to the whole team involved to avoid conforming to body ‘norms’ and to instead create diverse, relatable characters that showed variety when it comes to body size, genitalia shape, and skin tone. Playing too safe by keeping characters generic, neutral and "average" is not what we were striving for. By intentionally celebrating all kinds of experiences and bodies, the aim was for everybody to truly see themselves reflected.

Together, we developed a visual language and created an extensive guide covering all the different aspects to be taken into consideration when expanding their library of educational content. Even details such as hands, pressure indicators and pubic hair were thought thoroughly.

It’s not often that you have an opportunity to contribute to a project that can make an actual difference in society and improve sexual education all around through an accessible platform. Knowing people would be able to not only benefit from the valuable information but also to see themselves and identify with the images was extremely rewarding.
